wide·screen gam·ing fo·rum (wsgf):
[-noun] Web community dedicated to ensuring PC games run properly on your tablet, netbook, personal computer, HDTV and multi-monitor gaming rig.
It's been almost two months since the last newsletter. I'll save info on all the great game updates, blog posts, videos and tutorials for a couple more weeks as we have a lot of great updates to share. We have done some performance tuning and the site should be much faster for everyone.
We have posted the polls for the 2011 WSGF Gaming Awards. Come review the choices and make your voice heard. You can get more details on each game and developer, and cast your vote here - Award Info & Voting.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the US, and a happy holiday season to everyone else around the world.
Steam Sale Giveaway
Another way we're celebrating Thanksgiving is to repeat our giveaways from last year. The Thanksgiving weekend brings amazing sales on Steam, often at huge discounts and with multi-pack offers. To get in on the action, all you've got to do is:
Good day to everyone. We've got some good updates since the last newsletter two weeks ago. Also, as a regular part of the newsletter I am going to start highlighting one area or section of the site. First up is the WSGF IRC Channel.
Connecting with the WSGF Chat/IRC
Many people aren't aware that we have a WSGF IRC Channel. Delphium hosts it on a private server that allows us customize bots and scripts. If you don't run an IRC client, we host a Java client on the WSGF. You can find it at http://widescreengamingforum.com/irc. If you're logged into the site, it will automatically use your forum name as your IRC nickname.
We've been getting about a dozen people idling, with guests dropping in to ask questions. Come idle as well, and help us make this a vibrant community forum. If you are running an IRC client, connect with the following details:
Host: wsgf.mine.nu Port: 32256 Or combined: wsgf.mine.nu:32256 Channel: #WSGF
Or with the following link: irc://wsgf.mine.nu:32256/wsgf (in Firefox this opens the IRC channel directly, using Mibbit)
I missed getting a newsletter out a couple of weeks ago, so there is double the updates to cover. Bear with me, and I'll get through them fast.
Site & Community Updates
We have re-launched our Guild Wars guild. While many are looking to the release of Guild Wars 2 next year, we've decided to reform the guild with the current game. Request an invite now to join in the fun. Additionally, if you'd like to help support the WSGF, we've launched Cafe Press & Amazon Stores.
The WSGF recently launched a Minecraft server for members. We are relaunching the server with the coming 1.8 release. Get all the details in this forum thread, and sign up to be white-listed for the server.
WSGF MMO Guild
A long time ago we created a Guild Wars guild, though it hasn't been active in ages. At that time GW was the only major FTP MMO out there, and it offered a single "international" server. Since then a number of major MMO's have gone FTP, which means the barrier to entry for a community guild is much lower. We've got a poll going to see what guild most people would like to join.
Thanks to everyone who has participated in our donation drive for DelPHiuM. We've passed the halfway mark, and I'd love to push through our goal in the last few days. DelPHiuM put in hundreds and hundres of hours into migrating the site to Drupal. Please show your thanks by making a small donation. You can donate through PayPal by hitting the Chip-In at http://widescreengamingforum.com
Remember, I am personally matching dollar-for-dollar through the $1000 goal.
WSGF Blogs Launch
As part of our continued upgrade to the site, we have launched our Blogs section. Any user can post a blog about anything relevant to the WSGF community. The staff has posted a few to start things off, and you can see them here - http://widescreengamingforum.com/blog
I hope you've stopped by the new site to see all of the improvements and changes. The site overhaul and migration was largely the effort of a small group of people. Within that group, forum member DelPHiuM put in hundreds and hundreds of hours on the Drupal setup, configuration and theming.
To help us celebrate the site relaunch, HIS Digital is giving away a Radeon HD 6970 to one lucky site member. All you've got to do is visit the contest page and fill out a quick quiz on their Radeon HD 6970 IceQ Mix.
Additionally, we've worked out the site performance issues and the fixed most of the bugs that have cropped up since we moved to the Drupal platform. If you've attempted to visit the site recently and found it slow and/or hard to use, everything should be working properly now.
If it's been a while since you've been to the Widescreen Gaming Forum, then I'd encourage you to stop back by. We have just finished migrating the entire site from phpBB3 and MediaWiki, to a Drupal architecture.

As part of this migration we have centralized a lot of the game information that was spread out across the site. Information is now easier to find, and easier to help update. We also have a number of new features like image galleries, news feeds and blogs.
