take a look at this guide if you are stuck, its similar but we'll be editing 640x480 instead of 800x600

viewtopic.php?t=16206

its not a string, its 2 dword numbers, so just use GoTo/Jump To feature and paste the dll offset 0x01075BC8.

you should see 80020000E0010000 in the hex data

8002 = 640
E001 = 480

uploading the file for others may not be a great idea.. its part of the original game so youre violating some agreement if you did

Can someone help me make sense of this?

First of all this person mentions "so just use GoTo/Jump To feature and paste the dll offset 0x01075BC8"

Q.) What is it that I am actually pasting here? I am using Be.HexEditor and used the GoTo feature as well as Find and there is no "0x01075BC8" or "01075BC8" for that matter.

I have also tried to find "80020000E0010000" and there is only one instance of it but not at the beginning of the string of values as I've seen in the tutorial as well as others posts here. The only instance of it I find is as seen here:

I am looking for 5040x1050, I prefer to learn what I'm doing rather than just have someone do it for me, but at this point will take any help I can get, thanks.

Thanks, I'll keep it just in case. Right before I crashed for the night, I edited the numbers I posted in the pic of above and only those numbers and it worked. So in other words, I only edited the 640x480 resolution.

Quote:
Btw its 01075BC8 the line you should check.

As I stated above, line "01075BC8" does not exist. The closest to it is 01075BC0 where the ending digit is not an 8 but a 0. In fact, there are not any sets of numbers at all that end in 8, and all of them end in 0 (Including the .dll you made available, not 1 ends in 8, but only 0). Perhaps it is the editor I'm using? Anywho, as I said above and in the other post, that number that ends in 8 does not exist.

Thanks again for the help and fast responce!
Dan

PS. For other readers not knowing and since no one yet has taken a minute to give a simple step by step, or how to.

  1. I downloaded and installed the free Be.HexEditor.
  2. Run Prototype and set the resolution to 640x480, and exit the game.
  3. Run Be.HexEditor and Open your Prototype "prototypeenginef.dll" (You can also drag and drop it into Be.HexEditor).
  4. From the Edit menu choose Find or press CTRL+F, and put a bullet in "Hex" (Do not paste here, it will change your values you try to paste) and type in 80020000E0010000, as you type it will add the spaces as needed making it look like "80 02 00 00 E0 01 00 00". Hit enter to find your numbers.
  5. When it finds it, place the cursor on the 8 in "80 02 00 00 E0 01 00 00" and change it to which ever values your adding.
    • Do not try to select the text with your cursor and just overwrite it since it does not work that way here, and works more like you are in "Insert" mode.
    • In my case it was to change 80 02 to b0 13 (This is the formatted value for 5040) then change the E0 01 to 1a 04 (which is 1050) so the entire set of values should now look like "b0 13 00 00 1a 04 00 00" when your done.
    • As already mentioned in this thread, you can get your particualr values via google, or from this posters appreciated efforts here.
  6. Save and your finished.

I just did a res hack for 5760x1080 for a friend, waiting for him to tell me if it worked. I should try 5760x1200 on my computer and see how it runs and looks.

Is FOV automatic or do we need hack/edit that also?

can you please tell me what to replace to get 5760x1200?

I replaced 8002 with 6801 and E001 with 3804.

I know that in HEX 5760 is 1680 but for some reason prototype uses some kind of inverter.....

someone please help tried 5h getting this game to work...........

Hex edits can be done with little knowledge but some attention is required... Take the time to read the solution carefully ;)

The "inverter" is Little Endian, you have to move two digits at a time.
For 5760x1200:
Width: 5760 (dec) is 1680 (hex) which must be written 80 16 in the file.
Height: 1200 (dec) is 04B0 (hex) which must be written B0 04 in the file.

So the part that by default reads:
80 02 00 00 e0 01 00 00

Should now read:
80 16 00 00 b0 04 00 00
