==Game Information==

The Void (also known as Tension, Russian: Тургор) is a 2008 survival horror adventure computer game developed by the Russian studio Ice-Pick Lodge. The game is about a soul that accidentally lingered in the Void, before absolute death. The Void is a purgatory-like place, in which the most valuable thing is Color, a liquid that represents lifeforce. Color is scarce and famine is a usual thing for its dwellers — beautiful naked Sisters and deformed monstrous Brothers. Color is a universal resource in the game — at the same time it is the hero's health, armor, stats and ammo. With the help of Nameless Sister, the soul finds out that there is a way to escape and be reincarnated again on the surface, but in order to do this the player must disguise himself as one of the Brothers and eventually confront them.

There is a good FAQ on the developer's forums here: http://forum.ice-pick.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=8932

P.S. This is one of the best games I've ever played, so you should definitely look into it.

==Version==

The Void has a number of versions and releases. I played the English, Steam version, v 1.0.

==Method==

Native Widescreen Support.

Is there a demo out, so that someone could test the Surround support?

If you speak German, yes.

I have the full game (GamersGate version) though I didn't really get "into it" yet.
Edit: see my next post for updated info.

Eventually. I've got a backlog building up. I want to get the 2006 retirees out of the way before adding more stuff to the db/MGL. Also, "real life" is being a bothersome distraction ATM.

.ini solution required for resolutions not in the hard-coded list is a blemish, grade would be B.

Calculated grade: C
Potential grade: B+

Major outstanding DR omissions:
Need 1280x768 tested.

Minor outstanding DR omissions:
Need 1280x720, 1280x800, 1680x1050, and 1920x1200 tested.

.ini solution is a blemish.

CCE: 88.5%

This will hopefully bring CCE to 100%...

==Method==
Native for most resolutions, .ini required for 1680x1050.
Display width and height must be multiples of 4 for any resolution to be natively supported and available from the config app.
For 1680x1050: (from the official solution)
1) Navigate to the data subfolder of the game's install rep, should be sth like C:\Program Files\bitComposer\The Void\data
2) Create a new text file and copy/paste the following into it:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<Renderer>
  <Width>1680</Width>
  <Height>1050</Height>
  <Antialiasing>3</Antialiasing>
  <Anisotropy>16</Anisotropy>
  <TextureQuality>0</TextureQuality>
  <LightmapQuality>0</LightmapQuality>
  <NoTwoSidedStencil />
  <HDR/>
</Renderer>
3) Save the file as rcfg.xml and launch the game.

This is probably unrelated to widescreen, but you may also need to lower the level of antialiasing for some resolutions to work.
1440x900 (native) and 5040x1050 (ini) both require zero AA to run on my setup, although 1680x1050 (ini) works fine even with 16x AA. :?

==Supported resolutions==
Confirmed working and natively supported: 1280x720, 1280x768, 1280x800, 1360x768, 1600x900, 1920x1200, 2560x1600.
Confirmed working through .ini edit: 1680x1050.

==Aspect ratio support==
16:10, 15:9 and 16:9 are supported natively with Hor+ gameplay.

==HUD stretch==
None.

==Cut-scenes==
There's a bunch of FMVs (intro/outro, death, glyph usage demos...) in addition to the real-time sequences. They are anamorphic.

16:9

==Surround Gaming Support==
Native/.ini depending on the resolution, see Method section for more details (5040x1050 is probably the only surround res to require the edit).

HUD: scales correctly.

The Sisters/Brothers interface of the Journal has a minor glitch in surround: the first and last name on each list are cut off and can't be accessed. The current Sister/Brother will be selected by default though, so you shouldn't miss anything - unless you really want to read what the first one said while you're later on in the game...

FMVs: stretch

Should we consider the surround issues to be surround blemish / overall negligible? Or surround consequential / overall blemish? Based on what you say, it sounds like the former, is that right?

Yes, "overall negligible".

Grade is B+, coverage is 100%, .ini solution is the only blemish.
