ATI Announced SL-DVI > DP Adapter for Eyefinity

ATI recently announced immediate availability of Single-Link DVI > DisplayPort Adapters for Eyefinity. The adapters are immediately available from suppliers such as Accell and Sapphire. The support a maximum resolution of 1920x1200, and do not require any external power. I was able to get hands on with them. They are simply plug and play, need to drivers and simply work.

ATI Catalyst 10.8

ATI released Catalyst 10.8. For Eyefinity users, the release is largely an incorporation of the Tri-Fire and Quad-Fire updates, and the AA fix for StarCraft II found in the 10.7a hotfix. There were additional performance updates and CrossFireX profile updates for a number of titles, including LOTRO and Left4Dead2. Relevant updates can be found our ATI Catalyst Eyefinity Feature Changelog.

Still no 5x1-Portrait support. We've seen it recently in the wild, and hopefully the 3x1-P CFX and QuadFire improvements are steps on the road to 5x1-P support.

Update - Hard OCP has an exclusive update to the CFX Application Profile Update (until ATI posts it). Grab the 10.8a Application Profile for CFX improvements in Aliens vs. Predator and Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Bionic Commando - Potentially Certified

Ergonpandilus posted a Detailed Report for the 2009 update to Bionic Commando. The game offers Native Hor+ support with a proper HUD, though it isn't centered in multi-monitor. Some cut-scenes are anamorphic, and some are Vert-.

Disciples 3: Renaissance - Native Surround/Eyefinity

scavvenjahh posted comparison screenshots for Disciples 3: Renaissance. The game offers Native Hor+ support with a proper HUD, though it isn't centered in multi-monitor.

New FOV & Aspect Calculator, and Source HUD Files

Delphium has been hard at work on his FOV & Aspect Ratio Calculator and updating the Centered HUD Files for Source Engine games such as L4D1, L4D2 and TF2 with the recent addition of Alien Swarm.

The FOV and Aspect Ratio calculator now has an auto-detect function. Plug in your the native resolution of your panels and the arrangement (i.e., 3x1, 3x2, etc.) and click "auto detect." The tool will now determine your bezel-corrected resolution and spit out all the information associated to your configuration.

With a recent L4D2 update, Valve changed how the Source engine works with custom HUD files. The games no longer allow for custom ".res" files, but require the mods to be in the ".vpk" files. While you're free to "roll your own," Delphium and GeneralAdmission have created .vpk files for the most common 3x1 (non-bezel corrected) aspect ratios. Download them on the L4D2 Centered HUD page.

A Potential Solution for Active DP Adapter Flickering in Eyefinity

Delphium has been doing some work on solving his DP flickering issues. He found that powering the Active DP Adapter with his HTC cellphone charger SOLVED THE FLICKERING.

Even though the adapter was rated to use 400mA, it flickered with even 900mA on a USB 3.0 socket. Pushing to 1A of current solved the problem. He made a USB Y cable (complete with multi-meter points), and it solved his flickering as well. I noted that the iPad wall adapter provides 1.2A, and it might serve as a solution as well (the iPad is known not to charge on "low-power" USB ports).

He has a few Y cables he's willing to send to folks in the UK, and I'm willing to pay if some folks in the US would like to test as well.

Custom Res Hack for StarCraft II works in Eyefinity/Surround

Forum members HaYDeN has posted a custom res launcher for StarCraft II. Members have had success with the hack being used in both single player and multi-player games. However, use at your own risk in multi-player. This might be considered cheating by Blizzard and get you banned. However, playing out the story in Eyefinity and Surround should be a blast.

WSGF Lobbying - Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days

Forum members have taken up lobbying Eidos for proper multi-monitor support in Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. Eidos has a pretty good track report for native support, or fixing multi-monitor issues with post-release patched. Join the chorus for proper support. The demo stretched the image across three screens, with menus that were cut off.

Widescreen Tool for Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Invisible War

New forum user WaitingForNahalem posted a link to a utility he wrote that enables proper widescreen support (with a correct HUD) in both Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Invisible War. The game offers a proper FOV and HUD based on your aspect ratio. Looking forward to comparison screenshots and a Detailed Report.

GTA IV: Episodes from Liberty City

Tanuki posted (what is probably the longest) Detailed Report for GTA IV: Episodes from Liberty City. The game's performance follows right along with the original GTA IV. Hor+ through multi-monitor, with the correct HUD. There are some minor quibbles (particularly in mutli-monitor). This almost isn't unexpected considering how many aspects there are to the game once you take into account all the mini-games, the in-game "Internet", TV watching, etc.
